Life Begins at the end of your comfort zone.

What is it?
Online therapy or Teletherapy is when the client and therapist talk with each other by either video over the computer or by phone, instead of meeting in an actual office.
Why would I choose online therapy instead of seeing you in person?
There are many people that love the idea of showing up to a therapist’s office and sitting in a comfy chair while having face-to-face contact.
For years, this was the only type of therapy I offered. But two of my clients changed my views on distance therapy.
Client satisfaction with distance therapy
Several years ago, I had a long-standing client move away. She asked if we could continue talking each week by phone until she could find a similar therapist. After two or three sessions with her, she said the only thing she missed about seeing me in person was the hug!
Also, since I am a specialist, I have had many folks seek me, even though they live a great distance away.
One of my clients worked at the Breckenridge ski resort, and she would drive to Boulder to see me on her day off work. That is a two-hour commute each way without traffic!
One Tuesday during a snow storm, we decided to talk by phone. She loved it, and she didn’t miss the commute! Eventually, unless she was in town, we met by phone. She referred me to some colleagues in her area, and I began providing regular phone therapy sessions.
Overcoming Colorado’s unpredictable weather
Once I became comfortable with therapeutic phone sessions, I began to offer them to my clients living close by.
One winter, in particular, Boulder had over a dozen really tough snow days. I offered my clients phone therapy appointments instead, and all but one client said yes to a meeting by phone. This allowed them to keep their therapy appointment without having to drive in the ice and snow.
Eventually, many of my clients have chosen to remain on the phone with me instead of having therapy in person. They say that it is actually more intimate over the phone because they can share some of their raw feelings, such as shame about certain issues, and they don’t have to see me.
Saves you time and money
Once I became known for offering phone sessions, I began to be able to help more populations of people.
This included college students away at school, professionals involved in regular travel for work, and a few well-known public figures in the community who wanted to keep their privacy.
The most frequent participants of phone therapy are stay-at-home moms. We are able to schedule therapeutic sessions around their children’s napping schedule, and the moms do not even have to dress up!
This was truly lifesaving for a few moms that suffered from postpartum depression. Also, it doesn’t require the added expense of a babysitter for each therapy session when performed by phone.
All these people were and continue to be helped by the versatility of phone therapy.
Let’s also mention the traffic.
The Denver/Boulder area has become so populated over the last 10 years that it takes much longer to get where you want to go throughout the day.
I had a client who previously lived 5 minutes from my office in Boulder move 12 miles away to nearby Longmont. Rather than taking the time to drive to my office, she decided to see me via the phone.
What about Online therapy? Is that on a computer?
Another option besides working by phone is to utilize a video platform for online therapy. We can actually see each other via the webcams on our computer or smartphone.
I utilize Zoom Meeting, which is safe and secure. I send you a link, and you download the app to your computer, tablet, or smartphone.
It is so easy that you do not have to be technically inclined to use it!
This method has become more popular each year as people’s lives become more complex, and they want to reach out for help to the right practitioners.
Also, many studies have found that online therapy is just as effective as traditional talk therapy.
